01b — What is a DPP
A passport for every product.
A Digital Product Passport is a digital record that accompanies a physical product: an identity card for its lifecycle. It can cover where the product came from, the materials it is made of and how it was made, its environmental impact such as its carbon footprint, how to repair it, and how to recycle or dispose of it at the end of its life. Each passport uses the product’s barcode number as its identifier, printed on the product, its packaging or documentation, typically in a QR code. It is kept up to date as the product moves through its lifecycle.

02 — The pressure
Under the EU’s ESPR, passports arrive one product group at a time. It starts with batteries in February 2027; textiles, steel and tyres follow. Once a group is covered, no passport means no sale in the EU.
