Conwy County Borough Council

The Welsh Government is actively investigating which technologies could be used to enable and support digital kerbside Deposit Return Schemes. Polytag was proud to be selected to run a pilot in Conwy, North Wales, to test this over the summer of 2021. More details on the pilot can be found here.

Welsh Government

Polytag is proud to have worked closely with Howard Davies, Plastic Policy Manager for the Welsh Government, during the Conwy Digital Deposit Return Scheme (DDRS) Pilot. Building on its reputation for recycling success, in 2019 the Welsh Government published its Towards Zero Waste strategy in which it outlined an ambition to become a zero waste country by 2050 and the world leader in recycling.

Wales is making good progress. In 2020 the country confirmed a record high recycling rate of 65.14% for 2019/20, exceeding its 64% statutory target. Globally, it currently ranks third for recycling. However, the Welsh Government also recognises that it needs to do more and is leading the way when it comes to proving the viability of DDRS in the UK.
