A fully GS1-compliant Digital Product Passport across a global product suite.

Challenge
In an era of green-hushing, 93% of consumers demand transparency from brands (Porter Novelli Purpose Report 2025). Hozelock needed a Digital Product Passport that works globally: deep expertise in the GS1 standards, a platform built for multilingual, location-aware content, and a partner able to run a programme that touches packaging, legal, IT, supply chain, printing and customer teams.
Solution
Hozelock, a market leader in garden products, signed up with Polytag to deploy a fully GS1-compliant Digital Product Passport (DPP) across its global product suite. Polytag put its award-winning platform at the centre of a four-step programme methodology. Hozelock uses one serialised Smart QR Code, a GS1 Digital Link, on its UK and Spanish products, and Polytag’s resolver serves the localised page based on where the customer is when they scan, so no localised barcodes are needed.
Result
Polytag delivered a fully compliant DPP programme aligned to GS1 standards, underpinned by a reliable resolver and an enterprise-grade platform. Hozelock has unlocked end-to-end traceability, enhanced customer engagement, accelerated packaging compliance, improved operational visibility and enabled circularity and aftercare. Its teams have found the dashboards, tools and data analysis capabilities critical to their strategy.
03 — The story
A Digital Product Passport built on GS1 standards.
By introducing QR codes at scale and connecting them to a robust, standards-aligned data backbone, Hozelock has a single, scannable entry point for multilingual product information, safety guidance, care and repair content and circularity journeys, delivered contextually through dynamic, location-aware content. The same serialised GS1 Digital Link code is printed on UK and Spanish products: the market is decided at the scan, not on the pack. Behind the code, products sit in groups such as hose storage, fittings and connectors and garden sprinklers, and each group is connected to its own landing page.

04 — The experience
The same code, a page in the shopper’s own language.
Scan the Select Hose 30m in the UK and the page thanks the shopper in English. Scan the same code in Spain and it thanks them in Spanish. Six buttons cover what happens after the sale: app download, support, loyalty programme, safety information, purchase registration and instructions.
Features: Digital Product Passport · GS1 Digital Link · multi-language · registration · support

Why Polytag.
Hozelock needed three things. GS1 understanding and approval: deep expertise in the GS1 standards, covering identification keys, data models and resolver services, and the assurance of GS1 Global approval. A platform purpose-built for DPPs: capable of dynamic, location-aware content and enterprise governance at scale. Cross-functional programme management: rolling out DPPs touches packaging, legal, IT and architecture, supply chain, printing and customer teams.
Four steps, one platform.
Polytag’s delivery framework places its award-winning platform at the centre of a structured, enterprise-ready methodology. Generate: create and allocate GS1 Digital Link QR codes, apply structured data rules and configure resolver pathways. Manage: govern and orchestrate content across markets, languages and categories. Print & Store: integrate with digital printing technologies to apply high-quality scannable QR codes on production lines with full auditability. Evaluate: use analytics dashboards to monitor scan behaviour, location insights, engagement funnels and operational performance.
Managed at scale.
Hozelock’s products are managed in the Polytag platform in groups. Each group shows how many products it holds, its status and the landing page it is connected to.

On your own domain.
Codes printed on pack can carry a sub-domain of the brand’s own. Open the DNS settings for the sub-domain and create a CNAME record that points to Polytag’s web resolver.

By partnering with Hozelock, we’re not just putting QR codes on packaging – we’re building an intelligent digital product passport system that speaks directly to each customer’s needs. Whether they’re looking for product care tips, warranty information, or instructional videos for the specific product they’ve bought, it’s all accessible with a simple scan managed through our award-winning platform.
